Branford's New Fire Department Welcomes You

All the details you need to know about the new fire department headquarters if you’re thinking about stopping by their open house on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.

Almost a year to the date of their ceremonial groundbreaking, the brand new 34,000-square-foot was open for business. On , they will officially open their doors to the public and celebrate this state-of-the-art facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Branford Fire Chief Jack Ahern and Assistant Chief Shaun Heffernan will greet the public and offer a look inside the new space, which features a fully functioning community meeting room for residents and town officials.

The building process of the $12.5 million-bonded project was done on time and ahead of schedule and features a 58-ton geothermal heating and cooling system, a solar panel system to generate and supply clean electricity; the new fire department is the town’s first LEED Silver certified building.

We’ve been following the demolition and construction process of the firehouse since Patch opened in late December 2010. Below is a list of the stories we’ve covered in the past two years if you want to read up before heading out.

This is a waste of taxpayer dollars. It is also to joke around the state, spending that level of money on this economy. A shameful memorial to Unk.

Did you attend the event today? Despite the threat of tornadoes, the show went on and things were wrapped up just before the first rain drop fell. It was a beautiful day for the Department. Congrats to Chief Ahern. Check back for photos and video!

What a great day for the Branford Fire Department with their beautiful building. Amazing Grace was beautifully sung, Prayers from the churches in town were said blessing the men that work there and they need them in keeping us safe.We are so fortunate to have such a great department.
