Branford Police: Two-Car Crash Temporarily Closes Kirkham Street

Only minor injuries were reported in relation to the incident, which occurred shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

A two-car crash Wedensday afternoon at the intersection of Kirkham Street and Lincoln Avenue resulted in minor injures after one of the drivers failed to stop at stop sign, Branford police said.

The accident, which occurred shortly after 1:15 p.m., temporarily closed Kirkham Street for about 45 minutes, as officers conducted their investigation into the crash's cause.

According to Capt. Geoffrey Morgan, a 2004 Subaru was heading eastbound on Elm Street when the car's driver — Luke Rodney, 59, of Lincoln Avenue in Branford — failed to stop at the intersection of Kirkham Street.

This failure to stop led to Rodney's vehicle to collide with a 2006 Ford traveling northbound on Kirkham Street, Morgan said.

The Ford was being driven by Margaret Calamita, 72, of Jay Place in North Branford.

The collision caused Rodney’s vehicle to overturn and crash into fencing," Capt. Geoffrey Morgan stated in a press release.

Morgan stated that Officer Chris Manner, who investigated the crash, reported only minor injuries were reported at the accident scene.

He added that Rodney was charged for failure to obey a stop sign.
