Branford Police to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 17

The Branford Police Department in a will conduct a sobriety check point on Saturday, December 17 on Route 1 in Branford in the area of Business Park Drive starting at 6 p.m.

In 2009 there were 99 alcohol related deaths on Connecticut highways (cit. NHTSA 8/2010) which is slightly higher (13 percent) than the national average.

This initiative, based on a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Safety Program is a concerted effort to remove intoxicated drivers from the roadway, reduce the numbers of alcohol related accidents and fatalities and increase the safety of the Connecticut highways and roadways during the holiday season.
