Branford Police Report Thefts from Vehicles on the Rise

Residents and patrons of East Main Street area warned to be on the lookout.

Over the past several weeks, there have been a number of thefts from business vans and utility vehicles in the area of East Main Street from the I95 exit 55 out along Route 1 to the T&A Truck Stop including Business Parkway, Northeast Industrial Road and School Ground Road.

Thefts from these vehicles have primarily occurred in business parking lots during the nighttime hours, although, some thefts have occurred in adjacent residential properties. Items taken have predominately been work tools; however other electronic devices and money have been the target of other thefts.

The Police Department is requesting your assistance by being vigilant in protecting your business and personal property. This includes parking vehicles in a garage or in a well-lit parking lot, locking all doors on vehicles when unattended, as well as removing tools, expensive electronic devices and other auto accessories from vehicles or keeping the items out of plain view of potential thieves.

In addition, please report any suspicious activity immediately to police. Dispatchers will request as much information as possible. Please try to report a precise location and detailed descriptions of suspicious people including gender, race and clothing and for vehicles include make, model, color and license plate numbers if possible.
