Branford Police Raise $14k For Special Olympics From Dunk-A-Cop, Adopt-A-Mile

Recently, thanks to some innovation and the willingness to be dropped into cold water in front of hundreds of people, the Branford Police Department raised $14,000 for the Special Olympics.

The Branford Police Department has raised money for the Special Olympics in the past, but this year got more organized, according to The Branford Eagle. So they decided to do an adopt-a-mile promotion, where local organizations would give $100 and they would get a sign in town saying they donated to the Special Olympics, according to The Eagle. That raised 3,250, according to The Eagle.

Than came the big promotion. This past weekend, at the Special Olympic Games at Southern Connecticut State University, the department organized "dunk-a-cop", where participants could throw a ball at a target in the hopes of sending a cop into a pool of water, according to The Branford Eagle.

“We wanted to give back to the community, this is where I live, where I have lived my entire life and it is time that we as a department start giving back," Branford Police Sgt. Stosh Konesky, who participated in dunk-a-cop, told The Branford Eagle. "We don’t do that many events for the community and this is one we really wanted to focus on.  So we decided to do the first annual dunk-a-cop."
