Branford Police Quickly Solve a Daytime Burglary

A Branford and New Haven man have been charged in the residential burglary.

Branford Police were able to swiftly solve a daytime burglary after it was reported by the homeowner when she returned home at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said in a press release. 

Police Sgt. John Alves, who is the evening shift supervisor, said that officers were sent to a house on Featherbed Lane when the resident arrived home and noticed the front door had been forced open. 

While officers were securing the home, an alert neighbor called police and reported a white male acting suspiciously in the area, police said in a press release.

He told the dispatcher that the person had entered into a car carrying computer equipment, police said. 

The witness was able to provide the dispatcher with a vehicle description, partial registration, the vehicles direction of travel and a description of the both the suspect and the operator of the getaway vehicle. However police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Using that partial registration, Officer Dominic Eula, who was assisting Officer Luigi Amasino with the investigation, was able to search the department's police databases of vehicle registrations and find a vehicle that fit the description. 

Alves said in a Police Department press release, “Within a short time of determining the proper registration, Officer Amasino located the car parked at a local motel on East Main Street. Contact was made with the suspects and they were taken into custody after admitting to the burglary.” 

Police charged Jack Butler, 24, of 17 Brainerd Road, Branford, who drove and owned the vehicle and charged him with third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary. and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.

Police also charged Michael Bianchi, 28, of 1705 Quinnipiac Ave. Apt. B, New Haven with third-degree burglary; conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary;  third-degree criminal mischief; fourth-degree larceny; conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.  

Both Bianchi and Butler were held on a $10,000 bond and were arraigned in New Haven Court this morning.
