Branford Police Department's Holiday Weekend Safety Tips

Illegal fireworks will land you in jail.

is a huge concern for and Connecticut State Police throughout the holiday weekend. In addition to the State Troopers beefing up highway patrol, Branford Police will also be vigilante on a local level running DUI check points and arresting anyone in possession of illegal fireworks.

Branford's Captain Geoffrey Morgan said Branford Police responded to 32 fireworks complaint calls last fourth of July weekend (Fri., July 2 - Sun., July 4) and made 10 arrests.

Any firework that launches or explodes, said Morgan, is 99 percent likely illegal and those in possession with be arrested.

Morgan also stated that some residents have gotten their hands on commercial fireworks – possession is also grounds for arrests. The Connecticut State Police and the FBI work with Branford Police every year to ensure those in illegal possession of commercial fireworks as well as the source company are punished, said Morgan."It's really no joke, he added."

  • Do not use illegal fireworks; you will be arrested. If it explodes it's 99 percent mostly likely illegal.
  • Alcohol and fireworks don't mix; you could be charged with reckless endangerment.
  • DUI enforcement is no joke; if you are drinking, let someone else drive. A car is a 2,000-pound missal.
