Branford Firefighters Battle North Main Street Brush Fire

The Branford Fire Department battled a brush fire behind The Lock Up Self Storage faciltiy on North Main Street early Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the Branford Fire Department spent much of the afternoon battling a large brush fire along a hilly and tough-terrain portion of North Main Street.

The fire occurred on the hill behind The Lock Up Self Storage facility at 247 North Main Street, which sits along Route 1 between Chestnut Street and Manorwood Drive. 

The call for the brush blaze was first reported shortly after 12 p.m., according to Branford Fire's Twitter page

"Branford units are currently working a large brush fire between North Main ST and Chestnut ST. Please stay out of the area. Several calls for manpower have been made," the Branford Professional Firefighters Local 2533 reported via its Facebook page shortly after the blaze began.

The department's Engines 1 and 2, Tactical 5 and 6, plus Truck 1 all reported to the scene.
