Branford Fire Department Puts Out Two Fires This Morning

The Branford Fire Department responded to two simultaneous calls this morning, knocking down both fires with only minor injuries reported.

The Fire Department responded to two simultaneous structure fires this morning. The first fire was at 469 West Main St, New England Orthotic & Prosthetic at 08:32 a.m. This fire was minor in nature, the result of a faulty furnace.

Then at 8:35 a.m. another structure fire was reported at the basement and heavy smoke was pushing from the house upon arrival. Firefighters entered the structure and quickly knocked down the main body of fire.

Crews initiated a search and it was confirmed that the two occupants had escaped the building. One occupant had some slight smoke inhalation and was treated by Branford Paramedics. One firefighter suffered a minor laceration to a finger from broken glass.

The Fire Department was assisted by the Guilford Fire Department as initially our resources were very thin. At one point this morning all of our vehicles were deployed at one scene or the other.

At the time of the fire the occupants were asleep and were awakened by the smoke and the sounding of a smoke detector. The Fire Marshal’s Office is still on scene investigating the cause.
