About 50 Percent of Branford Powered Up

Most businesses will be open tomorrow.

It's felt like forever but stated this evening that about 50 percent of Branford is back on the grid following since Sunday. Most businesses, they stated, will be fully functional tomorrow.

After more than 80 hours without power, this comes as good news. CL&P reported tonight just after 8 p.m. that 56 percent of customers were still without power; that's 9,141 to be exact.

According to CL&P's most up-to-date power restoration map, 40 other towns have a higher percentage of power outages than Branford. Canterbury is still 100 percent in the dark as is North Stonington.

Nearby, 76 percent Guilford's CL&P customers are still in the dark as are 82 percent of customers in Madison. A startling 96 percent of Clinton customers as still without power as well. East Haven and North Branford, which are served by United Illuminating, have most of their power back.

Along the shoreline, 20 percent of Greenwich customers are still in the dark and 15 percent of CL&P customers in Norwalk are without power.

FEMA was also in town this evening and a delivery of aid items for the most needy was brought in. Branford volunteers and Fire Explorers helped to deliver these aid items.
