Poll: Non-Citizens Voting

New Haven's Mayor wants non-citizen residents to be able to vote in local elections. Do you agree?

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. has proposed that non-citizen residents including undocumented immigrants be allowed to vote in municipal (not federal) elections, as reported in the New Haven Independent.

DeStefano proposed allowing all New Haven residents the right to vote, as long as they provide identification and proof of residency.

The Mayor argues that non-citizen residents who live in New Haven pay local taxes and their kids go to school in the city, so they should have the right to vote in local elections.

Patch wants to know if you agree that non-citizen residents should have the right to vote in local elections.  Non-citizens and citizens alike may vote in today's poll and feel free to elaborate in the comments section below.

Thank you for proving my point. These phrases ARE nothing but political in nature. Many countries, such as Iran, have declared all kinds of people "illegal" - even some of thier own citizens. I, for one, do not want my country to emulate Iran. Why do you?

These are euphemism that were and still are typical of the Marcuse clan. They brought political correctness here in order to create a cultural and racial revolution that would so cripple us that we would be unable to even debate the most common sense things without being accused of being bigoted. This is not some trumpeted theory, read for your selves. Read up on the Frankfurt School. Read Dr. Marcuse and his ilk’s own books and what their plans for America were. It’s actually very simple. Are these people here legally – by legal standards? If the answer is no, which it most certainly is than they are illegally here. Therefore, they are illegal aliens. You see folks, some people are just beginning to wake-up to the fact that they have been so brainwashed over the years through politically correct indoctrination, that they are feeling the strains of cognitive dissidence. In this state, previously relied upon constructs no longer make sense to them so, when confronted by those of us less affected, their reactions become reveal themselves to schism-like. Profanity and verbal hostility are often the first resort.

Pete- you do not know where I work, who I work with or anything about their families. I know that I work with LEGAL minority families that have obtained citizenships or who many who have the proper documentation. I am not aruging against you- I stated above that in regards to the poll, I agree that only US citizens should be allowed to take part in our voting, however, it is not okay to stereotype whole groups of people and put blame on them because of how they look. You trying to tell me anything about the population that I serve and the values that I work hard to incorporate into our young people is absurd. There is great danger in the grouping people together based on looks. I agree that people should legally be here and should only be allowed to vote if they are citizens, but I will not demean people based on looks or ethnic background. Do not speak to me as if you know anything about my experiences and do not accuse me wanting to harbor illegal people. I know the facts and I know the people I work with, you do not.
