Debbie’s Daily Dose of Food for Thought
After I told my doctor I write a daily column for Branford Patch, he asked me to, “Tell women they need to take better care of themselves. Doctor’s orders.” It didn’t take me long to agree.
We tend to juggle many things at once at a hectic, sometimes frenetic pace and taking care of ourselves doesn’t always fit in. In actuality, being in touch with and nurturing ourselves is important.
As author Gladys Taber once said, “We need time to dream, time to remember, and time to reach the infinite. Time to be.” These words ring true. Make yourself a priority.
What Happens When You Neglect Yourself
Smoking, inactivity, drinking, being overweight, and inadequate sleep all contribute to imbalances and health problems. The result is diabetes, heart problems, cancer, and more. Unfortunately, the list goes on and on and much of this can be avoided.
What to Do
Spend some time observing yourself and reflecting on the kind of life you want to be living. Consider these questions, and maybe even write down the answers. How are you eating? Are you exercising at all? Are you reactive or proactive? When do you relax? What do you really like to do? When was the last time you had a vacation? (Why not enter the Spa-liday sweepstake? You may win a trip to LA or NYC!)
