A Community Gallery: The Annual Parade and Tree Lighting

Your photos and stories wanted.

I remember attending my first parade and tree lighting in Branford last year. I was relatively new to town and getting ready to launch Branford Patch just two weeks later. I attended the event as a dry run – what would covering the news and events of Branford be like?

I was overwhelmed by how awesome the event was. Each float was better than the next and the holiday cheer was over flowing. Music and sparkling holiday lights set the tone for the evening as children rode high above the crowds on a parent’s shoulders trying to get the best view of Santa. I felt as though I was in the 1950s and I would suddenly wake up and find none of this was real. But the holiday spirit is real during Branford’s annual events and the true meaning of the season – community and family – is never more evident than on this occasion.

I am such a fan of the event that this year I’ve secured a spot in front of where I’ll be passing out !

So how do you like the parade and tree lighting? Tell us in the comments! Will you be taking photos and video at the event? Be sure to share your best shots with us by adding them to this community gallery.

Cheers and let the holidays begin!

Wow, that a spectacular evening in Branford yesterday! What a great job by Branford Parks & Rec organizing everything! What a great concert by the Branford High School Chorale! Wow, Wow, Wow! I will have to see if I have any photos worth sharing--unfortunately my low-light photography skills aren't the greatest... Thanks again to all for a really fantastic Branford Holiday Festival Parade & Tree Lighting!!!!

P.S.: I am sorry we can't call it a "Christmas" parade any more, but I guess that's a sign of the times. At least "Santa" made it out to the festivities!

Wonderful parade, community spirit and most of all a great way to kick of the Season of Christmas!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!

My recollection is that this great event, enabled by so many community workers and residents, was "Christmas" based, implicitly expressed and explicitly stated.

Just added a couple of "lightened" versions of a couple of my "action" shots of cars, trucks, and machinery, from the parade (following a few of the other old cars in my old VW Karmann Ghia--Bob Ruggiero's '32 Graham was just ahead of me) and at the Green just afterwards (including those super-kool Lea Francis's, and the magnificent Van Wilgen Diamond T stakebed truck!). I realize I am pushing the limits of my photographic abilities, but they've been added for whatever they're worth!
