A Happy and Safe Prom

The Branford Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking promotes prom safety with local businesses.

The will once again be joining with the local flower and formal wear businesses to deliver the message promoting safety and sensible decision making during this year’s prom festivities.  Branford High‘s Junior/Senior Prom will be held on May 20th.

Businesses will be including cards with the Branford Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking logo and message: “Wishing You a Fun, Safe, and Happy Prom,” to all prom goers when they pick-up items from their stores. See a list of participating businesses below.

Also, each student attending the prom will receive a key chain with an attached card containing the above message.

Area merchants have been fully supportive of the Coalition’s efforts. Coalition Chair, Pat Andriole, stated that the primary goal of this endeavor is to ensure that the prom be a night of fun and lasting memories.  “We really want to promote a safe and fun prom season.  We asked these area shops to help and are pleased with the enthusiastic response we got again this year,” said Andriole.

“Their cooperation is critical for the program to succeed, and we are very appreciative of their help,” she continued.  “We are simply reminding folks of the old adage, drinking and driving don’t mix, ans also that binge drinking can also lead to tragedy.  It’s a reminder to make good choices now and throughout the summer.”

The Coalition also cautions parents that the state has passed legislation that holds parents responsible for the consequences of underage drinking on their property and for providing alcohol to minors.  “Parents need to act responsibly too.”  Andriole emphasizes, “The new host laws are very clear.  Adults who serve alcohol to minors at house parties will be held accountable.”
