Most of what makes up our daily lives and who we are today is the result of all the "habits" we have learned & developed from the time we were very young. Whether those habits we learned are good (like brushing our teeth everyday) or bad (like eating,drinking or taking drugs to relieve stress) they have created the person you have become. If the environment in which you were raised instilled the importance of good habits like taking care of your teeth, you likely have become an adult without major dental issues. On the other hand if the importance of teeth brushing and regular dental visits were not instilled then the exact opposite would most likely be true.
The same is true of our eating habits. If a person is raised in an environment where a normal healthy attitude about food and weight was instilled, it is likely that person will never have a weight problem. Unfortunately many people are raised, with all good intentions, in a home or in an environment where food is used as a tool to pacify, comfort or entertain, to an unhealthy extent. That child very likely grows into an adult who continues to use food in unhealthy ways and eventually over-weight sets in. Although these habits are now deeply ingrained in who you are, it is now possible to release those bad habits and replace them with new and healthy habits with a process called habit-reversal.
