Diets Don't Come in Lotions, Potions or Pills

New weight loss products are cropping up everyday.

At least once a week I see an ad or hear about some "amazing" new product that "everyone" is using that promises you will lose loads of weight fast. I find these ads both laughable and maddening! Although I do understand the desire to be able fit into last summer's shorts and bathing suits, I think the extreme lengths that some adults are willing to go to achieve fast weight loss is frightening.

The problem from my point of view is that our kids are always watching us and learning from us even when we think they are not. The phrase "children learn what they live" should always be in the forefront of our minds whenever we are considering making risky choices regarding our health. It is very likely that your child, especially daughters, will eventually view and deal with the issue of her "weight" in the same way that her mom does. There are no perfect parents in the world, we have all made and will make choices at times that might not have set the greatest example for our kids but that doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to try to do better.

Weight loss that is achieved by pills or potions or even drastic food restriction is always temporary. I've heard people say, "I'm just doing it to jump-start a healthy weight-loss program. Well, I can tell you that that never really works.

To lose weight forever and to never have to think about dieting again requires a CHANGE IN YOUR BRAIN not a change in your belly! Changing how you "think" about food and exercise is much easier (and certainly healthier) than a lifetime of yo-yo dieting using potions, pills and other drastic measures. And most importantly we will raise healthier children who won't end up stuck in the same vicious cycle. With obesity on the rise with every passing year in America I think it is time for us to get control of ourselves as parents and begin setting healthier examples for our children by being better role models.
