What’s better than free music? Free LIVE music!

Summer concert series is starting up all along the shoreline - check the list for dates and concerts.

Starting tomorrow, the local free music scene explodes – all along the shoreline, free concerts are being held all summer long.

We’ve got CDs at the library, sure…  but nothing beats setting up a blanket in the grass, laying out some snacks, a bottle of wine, kicking off your shoes and relaxing, maybe even dancing some.

You may even run into the guy in the picture – watch out, he’s on the lookout for a partner and doesn’t take No for an answer!!

The group over at Visit New Haven has put together a list of all the area summer concerts. See below for a listing by town, or check their website for listing by date. Check back at the site for additions/changes – they say they’re adding concerts throughout the summer.

In addition to the concerts on this list, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas is starting on June 16th in New Haven – they feature a lot of (free) concerts on weekends and during the weekday. The Carolina Chocolate Dropswill be performing on the 23rd…

Haven’t heard of them? Check them out doing “Hit ‘Em Up Style”… they’re pretty rad.

****  See you this summer on the lawns!  *****

Wow, excellent compendium list! Thanks Katy! I know our family has really enjoyed the Branford Jazz on the Green series, though we are sad not to see Ed Tankus involved this year with organizing and attracting top talent.

Branford Festival might be something to add...

@Steve: The compiled list is all thanks to the group at Visit New Haven, but I thought it'd be great to share. The Branford Jazz on the Green series was GREAT last year! @Bill: Thanks for the suggestion. The Branford Festival should be a lot of fun this weekend, with lots of free music and good times. Hope lots of people come out for that... AND it's a great time to sign up for the Summer Reading program - kids AND adults - at the Blackstone Library's booth! See you there!
