Countdown to the New Haven's St. Patrick's Day Parade

It's almost Parade Day! Yeah!! As you can tell I'm a little excited. Can you blame me? Let me introduce myself. I am the 2012 Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade, Chairman.

It's almost Parade Day! Yeah!! As you can tell I'm a little excited. Can you blame me? Let me introduce myself. I am the 2012 Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade, Chairman. Meaning I have the honor and challenge of putting the parade on the streets along with a great volunteer committee.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting some information regarding the New Haven Parade. If you have any questions feel free to ask here, or chairperson@stpatricksdayparade. You can also find information on our redesigned website www.stpatricksdayparade.org

Surprisingly to most, the Parade is not a New Haven city run event. In 1956 the modern day Parade was started by local Irishmen, following a tradition that original began in 1842. Prior to 1956 the Parade was on and off. Since 1956 we've been going strong again. The New Haven Parade is the largest single day spectator event. Crowds have been estimated at 300,000 in recent years.

A Parade this large is not cheap to put together. Our estimated yearly costs reach $120,000.00! Needless to say we have a lot of fundraisers throughout the year, and yes we do work all-year-long.

The New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place on Sunday, March 11th. Start time has been changed to 1:30 PM. Don't forget daylight savings time too!
