Know A Veteran? Thank Them for Their Service

Amidst all the parties, parades and celebrations it's important not to lose sight of the true meaning of Memorial Day.

By Gary Jeanfaivre

Amidst all the parties, parades and celebrations it's important not to lose sight of the true meaning of Memorial Day — to honor our servicemen and women, past and present, who have so selflessly sacrificed for our great country.

With that in mind, we've created this space for you to thank veterans for their service. It could be someone you know personally — a great grandparent or a brother or sister — or just a general thank you to all veterans.

I've attached a photograph of my brother-in-law, Shane Murphy, a U.S. Marine from Alpharetta, Ga., who is currently serving overseas. He is standing in front of the gravestone for my late grandfather-in-law, Peter Altomaro of Stamford, a U.S. Marine.

Whoever it is you'd like to recognize, use the comments below to honor our veterans on this Memorial Day weekend. Or, if you have a photo you'd like to share, post it on the Boards.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone — and thank you to our veterans!
