Camp Sunshine is pleased to announce the 2012 Colin's Crew Polar Dip. We believe that together we can send many more children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to our one-of-a-kind retreat in Maine.

With the strength of an event such as the Colin's Crew Polar Dip and the resources of Camp Sunshine and Colin’s Crew, it is our goal to raise in excess of $20,000 in 2012. That is enough to send 10 families from Connecticut to Camp Sunshine.

Who is Colin’s Crew? Colin’s Crew was originally formed to provide financial and emotional support to the Westbrook family of Wallingford, CT. Colin Westbrook, son of Heather and Michael, was your typical two-year-old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, (“ALL”) back in October 2009, just days after his second birthday.

Colin, along with his mom and dad, and little sister Maddison, attended Camp Sunshine for a week long vacation in July 2010. “Because of Camp Sunshine, our family was able to take a family vacation like no other. The volunteer staff was wonderful and being able to share stories and bond with other families in the same situation was truly amazing” said Michael Westbrook.

As Colin continues to do well, “Colin’s Crew” is now organizing a fund-raising event with Camp Sunshine to help other families in the same situation as the Westbrook’s.

Why a Connecticut based event for a camp in Maine? Since the start of Camp Sunshine in 1984, we have provided a haven for more than 35,000 family members from 48 states and 22 countries. In fact, in 2010 alone, 39 Connecticut families have participated in our program. Sadly, even with multiple sessions being added annually at Camp Sunshine, there are still many more children from Connecticut being newly diagnosed each year.

Our program continues to be recommended by the following Connecticut treatment centers: Connecticut Children's Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center, and Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital.
