Branford’s Community Volunteer Recognition

Photographer Richard Esposito invites you to a reception to benefit Branford Cares in which he will reveal his Signature Portrait series featuring 25 of Branford's finest community volunteers in their environment.  With the help of the community, Richard has selected 25 individuals that are making a difference in Branford. The honorees are not necessarily people that are well known, but the silent, unsung heroes that deserve to be recognized.  Join us in recognizing these individuals and bringing the volunteer community together in support of Branford Cares.

This is also an opportunity for the active volunteers of Branford to gather and learn about each other's causes.  Our support of one another is what makes Branford such a strong, tight-knit community!  Hopefully we can bring some new volunteers into the community.

Branford Cares is a newly founded organization that is dedicated to helping raise awareness and mobilizing citizens to help those in our community that are struggling to have their basic needs met.  Branford Cares has set an initial goal to raise $300,000 by Labor Day to help those in need in Branford, and this event is part of that fundraising effort.  The profits from the ticket sales will be donated to Branford Cares, and you are invited to make an additional donation if you wish, 100% of which will go to the charity.

About Branford Cares http://www.branfordcares.org

Branford has a basic needs crisis that can be solved if everyone helps.

Branford is a wonderful and diverse community; we have great wealth and considerable poverty. Much of the poverty is new, a result of ongoing economic conditions. The growing number of individuals and families who are unable to provide their own basic needs has risen alarmingly. Branford Cares is a community-wide response to those needs.

Branford is fortunate to have social service agencies to provide assistance, but the economic downturn has caused demand to exceed the resources and much stress has been added to the system.

The Branford community is known for its’ compassion and that is what is needed right now. Branford Cares is the way we can make a difference, have fun, help our neighbors and strengthen our community through selfless acts of generosity. If every person commits themselves to the goal that no child goes to bed hungry, no senior shivers from the cold, and no family loses its home, we will indeed sustain a vibrant community for all.

This is Branford Cares inaugural year. Let’s make it a great one! We’ll learn from the experience, and we’ll do even better in successive years. Please join us!

Mission Statement

The mission of Branford Cares is to raise awareness about the crisis of residents who are not able to provide for their own basic needs and to mobilize the community of Branford in a compassionate and concrete response. Taking action will sustain the service organizations that provide emergency and temporary food, shelter, utilities, health care, clothing, and transportation, but are unable to meet the rising number of requests for help.

Goals

1. That the entire community shows compassion for their neighbors through participation in events, purchases or contributions.

(2 ) $300,000 is raised by Labor Day. These funds will be used to meet basic needs which are:

Food to prevent hunger and poor nutrition

Shelter/rental and mortgage assistance

Utilities for lights and heat

Health / Medical

Clothing

Transportation
