Can You Help Mike Battle Brain Cancer?

Mike Carrano, a Branford resident, veteran and New Haven Fire Department member, has been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. And his family is asking for the community's help in his time of need.

Sometimes, we all need a helping hand. Neighbors, friends and families of those in need are reaching out to the community via the fundraising site GoFundMe. They’re raising funds for various causes including those who have suffered great losses.

Some of the people featured reside in Branford or the shoreline; others have a connection to the town. For more information, visit their GoFundMe page, shown below.

Mike Carrano — a U.S. Army veteran, Branford resident and New Haven firefighter — has been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. His friends and family are asking for the community's help in his extreme time of need.

"Mike and I were appointed together 15 years ago and he will only be able to earn a fraction of his pay. Mike is a service veteran and served our country in the army," Gary William Cole, a friend and fellow New Haven firefighter, wrote on the GoFundMe page he created to help Carrano. "Mike is so selfless, caring and has given so much to others I can only ask we show him our support and give a little back, so maybe we could ease an iota of burden for him."
