Join us at Blackstone Library to discuss Connecticut’s IOU’s with Senator Ed Meyers.
How Did They Get
This Big - What Can Be Done To Reduce Them
Connecticut has one of the
highest incomes per-resident in the country. It supports one of the best
educational systems and offers a very high quality of life. It also has one of
the highest levels of debt, mostly to reserve funds responsible for paying for
state employees’ retirement pensions and healthcare costs. When these employees retire and the bills come due, will general expenditures on safety, education, and healthcare have to be cut? Will new state employees’ salaries and benefits have to be reduced? Will state taxes go up? What can be done now to reduce the pain later? Senator Ed Meyer will be interviewed about these issues then engage in a dialogue with the audience about how Connecticut can best address them.
