Branford Library Seminar on 'The Future of the World's Resources'

The next Branford Library Seminar on November 6 at 2PM
will explore how well the world's resources will be able to support its growing population.

Commodities are physical substances like ores, food,
chemicals, tobacco, etc.  During the
20th century, the price of commodities dropped by average of 70%, allowing
people to manufacture and buy things much less expensively.  In this six years between 2002 and 2008, commodity prices gave back that 100 years of price decline.  It’s not entirely certain why this
happened, but it may have something to do with the amazing growth in the use of commodities
in China where 1.3 billion people, about 10% of the world’s population, are now
consuming 40% of all the coal used in the world, 50% of all the cement, and 40%
of all the copper.
