Bonsai, Illusion vs. Reality

This program is designed to demystify the ancient horticultural art of Bonsai. Todd will touch on the history and development of Bonsai, but will really focus on Design Characteristics and Horticultural Tricks used to create Bonsai.

Through discussion and the review of "teaching" trees, Todd's goal is to lend confidence to the audience that if they can grow a houseplant, they can grow Bonsai. They just need a little more information which will be provided that evening. Todd will cover all aspects of design as well as grafting, air layering, soils, fertilizers and pesticides. How to choose the right pot and maintenance through proper pruning will be covered amongst other topics. Bring a notepad and pen and a seat belt. This is a big topic and once we start we'll be moving, and moving fast.

Questions will be entertained at any juncture but don't be surprised if the response is, "I'm still coming to that.".

This program has been honed and refined for over a decade to be concise and engaging. Many non-bonsai enthusiasts have commented in the past that material covered influenced their ideas about growing the things they prefer.

Apprentice Lydia Cruz will work on the sidelines repotting and styling a small tree and we will check in with her at various steps to understand what she's doing. Take a look at Sanctuary Bonsai:  http://www.sanctuarybonsai.com/
