30 Hour Famine, Release the Feast
This weekend, the Youth Group of The United Methodist Church of Branford, will be fasting for 30 hrs to raise money for starving children around the world. Their goal is to raise enough money to feed 10 children (1 child for each member of the group) for 1 year which amounts $4,200. The youth have had several fundraisers for the upcoming weekend including a "kiss the sheep" contest with 3 of the church members vying for the privilage of kissing a newborn lamb. Members of the congregation voted for the person they thought deserved this honor and raised $1,283.
The fasting begins at 4:30 am on Saturday and continues until a pancake breakfast is served after church services around noon on Sunday. The teens will have water and juice available throughout the weekend.
The UMC Youth Group will spend the weekend at the church doing activities pertaining to the hunger around the world and will sleep in cardboard villages that they make Saturday night. There will be 2 male adults and 2 female adults participating with the group.
19,000 children die each year because of starvation and illnesses brought on by malnutrition
