Weekly Happenings May 15-20

Stargazing and looking into the earth: whether distant planets or mysterious bones are your thing, Branford is the place to be this week.

That rain outside? It's going to clear up soon - probably before Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Which is good for the stargazers among us: by the time Saturday night rolls around, Branford should have clear skies overhead. Perfect weather (we hope) for heading to Young's Pond Park for a night of  sponsored by the Astronomical Society of New Haven. The Society will train its telescopes on Venus, Mars and Saturn, and experts will be around to provide insight.

But if you're the kind of person who's more interested in what's buried in the ground than what's hidden in the sky, you may be interested in learning the story behind the mysterious bones found during the construction of Yale New Haven Hospital in 2011. In that case, check out the  at the Owenego Inn on Thursday, where State Archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni will explain the forensic research done after the bones were discovered.
