Power Out in Branford For Nearly All Branford CL&P Customers

Around 9:50 p.m., Branford fell victim to a town-wide blackout.

Just about one hour after Branford fell victim to a blackout, power was restored to most of the town. Though the cause of the outage was determined – a Branford substation – the details have not been released. We will provide more infromation as it becomes available. Branford Police have just reported that CL&P has stated the nearly 100 percent power outage tonight was cause by a substation issue and crews are enroute to work on the problem. The substation that caused the outage is located in Branford but Police were unable to say which station it was – either East Main Street or Meadow Street. There has been no official timeframe for power restoration.

Just before 10 p.m., more than 15,900 of the 16,272 Connecticut Light & Power customers in Branford lost power. Branford Police were unable to say what the cause of the outage was and they are waiting for response from the power company as of 10 p.m. Parts of Guilford also lost power; CL&P is reporting 15 percent of Guilford's customers are without lights at about 10:30 p.m. You can monitor the power outage map online.
