The days are longer and the milder weather and colors of spring are calling us to come outdoors. Why not plan adventures with your family to visit some of the beautiful places here in our home state of Connecticut? Pick up the eighth edition of Fun with the Family Connecticut and armchair travel with Doe Boyle and soon you will have a long list of fun things to do. She urges us to “Challenge yourselves to explore what you have not yet discovered. Learn about a topic you have never been taught. Open your eyes to sights you have never before paused to consider. The introduction gives a brief history about Connecticut and its diverse multicultural population and explains how to use the book. Chapters are divided into counties and the towns in them. The book is full of interesting information and I particularly enjoyed reading the highlighted sidebars sprinkled throughout.

Doe takes you across the state in a “west-to-east progression.” County maps and “Top Picks” are found at the beginning of each chapter. Each entry describes the place or event and includes phone numbers, websites and other pertinent details. They are user-friendly and full of fun facts!

How-to-Read This Book

Read it from cover to cover and learn so much about Connecticut. By the end, it will feel as if you have taken a trip with a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. If you don’t have time to read it through at the moment, jump around! Check out the opening of each chapter to learn more about each county, look in the index for a town you have heard of but never visited and go to that page, or simply open the book and start reading!

Doe’s engaging, witty and insightful writing will inspire you to get out of your chair and head out to the great, open roads of Connecticut. Explore and enjoy! This is also a great way to celebrate.
