According to an article by the Stamford Advocate, Metro-North President Howard Permut said the needed improvements include bridge repairs, the replacement of the overhead power system between the Stratford and Bridgeport stations and the replacement of the overhead catenary system between the Bridgeport and Greens Farms stations.
Extreme weather in recent years has combined with the bad condition of aging equipment to cause service interruptions. The very snowy and icy winter in 2010 caused problems, and last July, hot weather knocked out service and stranded passengers on a stalled train in Westport without air conditioning.
