Catherine Laich Shockley Swim Meet scheduled for March 7

Branford Stingray Swim Team Members and all Branford swimmers invited to register for historic swim competition.

Catherine Laich Shockley was remembered as an athlete who could outswim anyone who dared challenge her in the open waters of Branford Point and the historic section of Harbor Street.  She was considered one of the most prolific swimmers in a long line of Branford success stories,leading up to her induction into the Branford Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.

For her contributions to the town and her invigorating passion towards swimming, the , in conjunction with the Corcoran Sunquist American Legion Post #83, sponsor a fun swim meet each year.  The event, open to all Branford Stingray swim members and all Branford boys and girls, is scheduled for Monday, March 7 at the Swimming Pool beginning at 6 p.m.  Warm up time is slated for 5:30 p.m. Each swimmer is limited to two events.  Awards will be given to the top three places in each event and every swimmer will receive a participation ribbon. 

The following are each age groups events: (Swimmers must swim in the events of the AGE they are as of March 7th).

8 and under:  25 Freestyle, 25 Butterfly, 25 Backstroke,25 Breaststroke

9 & 10 years old: 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke

11 & 12 years old: 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke

13 and older: 100 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke

All participants can also register for the 500 Freestyle in the All Age Event category. 

Entry forms can be obtained through the town's website: www.branford-ct.gov or at the Branford Recreation Department office.  Swimmers are asked to circle two events on the entry form and submit it back to the Branford Recreation Department on or before March 4.
