Branford Happenings Oct. 3 – 9

What are you doing this week? We've got some suggestions...

It’s the first full week of fall and maybe it will actually start feeling like it. Whether slipping on a comfy sweater gets you in the cool-weather spirit or buying pumpkin flavored foods is what works for you, let’s just relish the month of orange, crimson and gold. Here’s your list of what’s happening around town this week.

The Branford Garden Club will be hosting Scarecrows on the Green Saturday, Oct. 8. Bring a scarecrow to the Green Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon, or build it on-site. Make it as simple or elaborate as you like. Fun for families, clubs, or businesses. Tour the Green all week, Oct. 8 -15 to choose your favorites.  Donations welcomed.

Now through Halloween, the Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Haunted Graveyard is rated PG for Pretty Ghoulish and is not intended for small children or adults who may be frightened easily. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to purchase their timed tickets, and then enjoy the park until their designated show time. As always, a portion of the proceeds from the Haunted Graveyard will go to benefit Diabetes Research.

Friday and Saturday nights in October, take the trolley to the gates of the HAUNTED ISLE and enter if you dare! Meet your nightmares in person and scream hysterically as ghoulish frights await at every turn! The Isle is suggested for adults and mature children with no health issues. Good walking shoes are recommended as the Isle is a wooded outdoor path with many twists and turns.  Trolleys operate frequently throughout the evening, last car boards at 10 p.m.

The Branford Rotary Club’s regular meeting will feature guest speaker , former New York City Fire Department Deputy Director of Dispatch Operations and Fire Commissioner’s Liaison.

Unplugged Play; 4 p.m.; Free

Children grade 4 and up are invited to have some old fashioned fun at the James Blackstone Memorial Library. Kids get unplugged with board games and discover what their parents did to pass time when they were kids.
