Branford Happenings: June 4 to June 10
Astronomy, fun for kids, meetings and more this week.
The big event this week is the transit of Venus on June 5, a glorious astronomical event that only happens twice a century. Since the two times a century are within eight years of each other, and the last transit was eight years ago, this will be your last chance to see it.
But you might be out of luck anyway. The Astronomical Society of New Haven posted this on their Facebook wall:

"Unfortunately, due to the specialized equipment needed to view the sun and the time of day (6:00PM), we do not have the resources necessary for a public outreach. Also unfortunate is the weather forecast for tomorrow. Cloudy with a 30% chance of rain."

Fun For Kids
During the week, come out to the Green for on the Branford Town Green. Every first Tuesday this summer (June 5, July 3, and August 7), from 5:30-6:30, the Community Dining Room (CDR) and the East Shore Health Department (ESHD) will host a fun, family-themed evening of outdoor games followed by a full picnic dinner. There is no cost for this event. “Summer sports activities are a great way for family members of all ages to get outdoors and be active,” said Patricia Kral, Executive Director of the Community Dining Room. “Over the years, the Branford Town Green has become a focal point for summer activities, from frisbee to running and walking to jazz concerts. We wanted to give back to the community by providing another way for the entire family to enjoy the beautiful warm weather together, exercise and have some fun. “Just bring your sneakers, a water bottle and a blanket,” added Kral. “We’ll provide the fun and picnic!”
On the weekend, head to Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library for ! Children in grades 1st through 4th participate in science activities Friday at 4:00 PM. Activities are based upon the PBS Kids program Fetch! Registration is required. Please call the library at 203-488-8702 to register your child.
