Assailant to Serve 10 Years for Branford Bar Fight Stabbing
The attack was originally thought to be over the Yankees-Red Sox sports rivalry, but the attacker's lawyer said that wasn't the case.
Baseball fans relish , but this week a New Haven man entered a “no contest” guilty plea for a stabbing at a bar that occurred during an argument over the two teams.
The New Haven Register reported that John Mayor of New Haven faces a 10-year prison term when he is sentenced in August for first-degree assault stemming from a fight at the U.S.S. Chowder Pot restaurant in Branford.
The fight on Oct. 2, 2010 originally was believed to be over the sports rivalry. Mayor, a Yankees fan, was arguing with the victim, a Red Sox fan, during a series between the two teams. But during a court appearance this week, Mayor’s lawyer told the court that the assault was not about the baseball teams.
