Update: 733 Branford CL&P Customers Without Power: Malloy Declares State of Emergency

The Nor'easter dumped as much as 26 inches of snow in the tri-state area – Branford is lucky with just three percent of CL&P customers in the dark.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy declared a state of emergency for Connecticut last night at 5 p.m. from the sky and caused full-foliage trees to come crashing to the ground. Widespread outages through the state and one death in Connecticut added to severity of this rare October nor'easter.

According to ABC News, in Colchester, one person died in a traffic accident blamed on the snow, Gov. Dannel Malloy stated. There was also a one death in Pennsylvania and one in Massachusetts. 

In Connecticut, Bristol saw as much as 17 inches of snow according to Weather.gov; there are no snowfall totals released for New Haven county as of this morning. You can monitor updates in Connecticut on Weather.gov by clicking "Public Information."

As of 7:30 a.m., Branford's power supplier CL&P is reporting 733 Branford customers are without power. Last night the number shifted from 62 to four customers before jumping up over 500 customers without power. Branford is one of about 15 CL&P towns with less than five percent of the population in the dark – CL&P serves more than 150 Connecticut towns. You can monitor outages hereWTNH reports more than 700,000 CL&P customers state-wide are without power.
