1977 BHS Alum Still Doing What He Loves

Catching up with 1977 Branford High Graduate Bob Conte.

Bob Conte graduated from Branford High back in 1977 and all these years later he is still doing what he loves–writing.  While majoring in communications at the University of Massachusetts, Bob began to write for the school newspaper. After graduating, he freelanced for local papers, wrote a regular music review column, and authored a middle school textbook on American music.

Eventually, Bob worked in corporate communications and as a copywriter and creative director in a Boston-area advertising agency.  With the experience gained from those positions, he launched Bob Conte Communications in 1996 working out of his home in Salem, New Hampshire, where he lives with his wife of 27 years, Laurelle. According to Conte, “It’s basically a writing and editorial service for businesses and nonprofits of all types.”  His clients include local and national companies, academic institutions, foundations, think tanks, advertising agencies, design firms, and even some of the world’s largest and best-known corporations.

To meet their wide range of communications needs, Conte may find himself working on a website, an article, a video script, an annual report, an ad campaign, a company or product brochure, a paper for a scholarly journal, a speech or presentation, game content, a comic book story, or just about anything else a client could require. Through the years, Bob has been the honored recipient of many industry awards and has found his venture to be both fun and rewarding.

Bob credits one of his high school English teachers, Roy Ogren, with helping to set him on his career path. According to Conte, “A supportive teacher can really make a difference, and I’ve always been grateful for the advice and encouragement he gave me.” (It's teacher appreciation week so thank your favorite teacher for a job well done!)

For this father of two grown children, David and Angela, one thing has not changed since his days in Branford.  “I still love to play pickup basketball, just like we did back in the day at the , and all the other courts around town. I have a lot of fond memories of those times.”
