Sorry I am in favor of the town garage being at the Tabor site. If you look at the facts it is the logical and best use of this property.

Do you live around Tabor, Mr. Baker? I think not. The people in the Tabor neighborhood DO NOT WANT IT. It is much closer to their homes, and much more offensive, than a possible fast food restaurant on Leetes Island Road that the folks from your neck of the woods are protesting. Tis' little wonder you begin your comment with "sorry".

Well Susan we have the Quarry down the street from my house. We get trucks that come trough all day every day. It is a business that trucks stone in and out of the quarry all day. We did give them a hard time because we wanted them to stop using Jake Breaks while going down the hill. The Quarry has been down in my neck of the woods for a very long time. My uncles used to work there when they were younger. I did not want it stopped like most of my neighbors I just want the workers to be respectful to others. The town of Branford is not a business and will not create the kind of traffic I am dealing with in my neck of the woods. I would love to have the town build the site on the quarry property in Stony creek were I live. It would be great to have my roads improved and my roads plowed first when it snows. That would not be fair to the rest of the town. we are on the boarder of Guilford and very far from the center of town or the citizens that live near east haven. For years the Tabor area had construction equipment and trucks running down around there every day, and when I was younger Garbage trucks were running down there every single day. The Town DOT would not bring anywhere near that kind of traffic. Susan where do you propose to put the town DOT? I am very interested to hear who's back yard you think it should go behind. I have already said I would be delighted to have it down my way.

I am not protesting the fast food restaurants or the gun store. I am protesting anything. I am just stating my opinion as you are.

My opinion, for which I am not sorry, would NE Industrial Drive or the Freight liner property neither of which are really in anyone's backyard as hard as Mr. Campbell counts inches, feet and yards. Industrial Drive - so named, WHY? Freight liner - next to the Truck Stop. DUH? The quarry has nothing to do with Tabor. It has been around for HOW many years? The people who bought homes there, particularly those newcomers to Branford, bought KNOWING there is a working business there Yes, I agree, the truckers should be as considerate as possible, but until the quarry is closed neighbors have to live with truck traffic. The people around Tabor, particularly those that have lived there for a while, never anticipated PW there. They DON"T WANT IT and, like you, would probably be delighted to have it down your way too. Why not see if you can work that out, Mr. Baker. We have been told there IS contamination. We have been told there is POSSIBLE contamination. We have been told there is that PESKY MIGRATING PLUME. We have been told if anyone gets sick MANY ZEROS will be added to the already outrageous cost of this property, which the town could have owned for a mere TWO million dollars. Now some want to locate some of our public employees there and build ballfields for CHILDREN to roll around on that contaminated land???!!!! I agree the number of zeros will blow the mind when the first employee or kid gets sick. GIve it to the land trust.

I think it would be great to have it at industrial park at exit 56. I think you should learn a little bit about geography. It is nowhere near everyone's back yard. Industrial park is as far east as you can go, but I hope you can arrange for it to go there. I am always sorry to disagree with people. I have respect for others opinions and I am courteous with my response. I find it interesting that you think it is a weakness in my opinion. Here I will try it another way. In my opinion the Tabor property is currently the best location for the town DOT. I will not be signing your Petition on this matter. I wish you the best of luck with it and if a more suitable site becomes available in the mean time, I hope the town adopts a location that is beneficial to all the citizens of Branford.

WHAT are you talking about, Mr. Baker? Perhaps, a reread ?
Dr. Alfred C. Whitehead January 09, 2013 at 10:01 PM
Mr. Baker... can you please provide us with the facts that makes Tabor the logical and best use for the PW garage?
Dr. Alfred C. Whitehead January 09, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Mr Baker...When it comes to facts, I respectfully submit to you, that you don't have them. I agree with you that the quarry is a perfect location for the Public Works facility. It has every advantage that Selectman Campbell proclaims about Tabor. It is away from flood plains and flood ways, its substrate is bedrock, there is plenty of land to build and it is aTown owned property. The question is, "why wasn't this location included on the list of properties being considered for the proposed PW garage." The simply answer is, "Selectman DaRos does not want it in Stony Creek!" His Creeker constituents would drive him out of Town. When the search was conducted (by a hand picked group of people loyal to Mr. DaRos), there was a condition called "fatal flaw." What that meant was that if the potential property was near residential neighborhoods, it would be automatically eliminated from the list. It might be safe to say that Tabor is exposed to more neighborhood than the Quarry yet the quarry was never even considered as a potential site. Do you believe that was by coincidence? It's fine to have an opinion on an issue. .. but having an educated and informed opinion is much better.
