Yale Pulls Controversial Expansion Plans in Branford

More than 200 residents attended the meeting Monday night.

More than 200 Branford residents came out to oppose Yale University’s proposal to purchase properties at 27 Highland Avenue and 158 Clark Avenue in an effort to construct a larger building to stow their sailboards there and house staffers, the New Haven Register reports.

The two properties are across the street from Yale’s sailing center, which is known as Yale Corinthian Yacht Club, the Register reports.

But Short Beach residents are having none of it and they came out to protest the move. Residents are concerned about rainwater runoff, Yale’s expansion into their residential neighborhood, and whether the development would bring more parties and rowdiness to the area, Evan Lips reports.
