On Jan. 29, Men's Fitness named its "Top 10 CrossFit Gyms in America." With 5,000+ CrossFit facilities throughout the country, the list was full of big-name cities including San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, Austin and Denver. But clicking through the photo gallery, you'll also find Shoreline CrossFit, located right here in Branford.
Men's Fitness reports: "The 21,000 square-foot Shoreline CrossFit box makes trying this sport much less intimidating than diving in headfirst. With their On-Ramp introduction program, you can attend eight sessions that cover fundamental movements and nutrition, which are the basics of CrossFit. Then, after you've mastered the introductory course, get on the roster for a regular class, like Olympic Lifting, CrossFit Yoga, Endurance, or a Master class (for athletes 50 years and older). You can even get your family involved with CrossFit for kids and teens. Each course has about one trainer per 10 people, which provides a personal feeling even when the group is on the larger side."

Dave Plumey, one of Shoreline CrossFit's three owners, was shocked in learning about the distinction.
"One of my guys sent me an email last night saying you're in the top 10 for Men's Fitness – I had no idea," said Plumey. "You know you work hard and you're doing the right thing, but to see it on paper is pretty cool – it's pretty amazing."
This isn't the first time Shoreline CrossFit has been nationally recognized. Plumey said that last year Reebok, which owns the CrossFit name, ranked the Branford gym in CrossFit's Top 50.
"[These type of accolades] are great for our clients, great for our staff and cool for the community – Branford and the entire shoreline area," said Plumey. "We're trying to change lives directly and indirectly through our workouts, eating Paleo, participating in charity events and doing competitions."
