Need Some Help Around the House? Dunzo Does It

When twenty-four-year-old Giancarlo LaGreca has quit his job in financial advising to pursue a dream career in manual labor. Yup, you read that correctly.

Branford native Giancarlo LaGreca has always been a hard worker. He’s been in the service industry since he was old enough to work and has done everything from washing dishes to construction. However, after graduating from Curry College with a degree in business management and pursuing a career in financial advising, he decided to switch gears. “I thought to myself, I’ve been doing manual labor since I was 12 years old and I’ll just continue to do it.”

LaGreca has recently launched Dunzo Services focusing on residential and commercial cleaning, concierge services and delivery. Whether you need a quick clean before company comes over or you’re a real estate broker looking to sell a house in a flash, “Dunzo does it.” From picking up your groceries to your dry cleaning, LaGreca said there’s no job too big or too small.

“I really don’t like cleaning toilets but I’ll do it. If it’s business, I really don’t mind it at all,” laughed LaGreca.

Though it can seem like a gamble to be offering these services in a tough economy, LaGreca said he’s confident that his competitive prices around the shoreline will help solidify his client base. Where a competitor might charge as much as $100 to clean a 2,000-sqaure-foot home, LaGreca said Dunzo will ask $70. He said he’s even been offered more money for the services but has declined.

LaGreca said he’s optimistic about getting his company off the ground. “It makes sense to do this in a tough economy,” he commented, “because it forces you to keep a lean budget. It forces us not to spend extravagantly.”

LaGreca said his client demographic will mostly be an affluent but added, “that’s not to say we’re not going to deal with anyone else. I have clients that are far from affluent but they still value our services.”

Ultimately, whether his team of two full-time and two part-time employees are cleaning homes or delivering items, the goal is to provide a service. “We’re trying to make people’s lives easier,” he said.

LaGreca hails from a family of working people and his father Richard LaGreca who is now in consumer finance, used to be an entrepreneur who manufactured textile goods in East Haven. His mother Cheryl LaGreca is a hairdresser at Branford-based .  Of his parents’ focus on good work ethic for himself and younger brother Marcello LaGreca, he said, “We weren’t ever forced to work but they just wanted us to work and have instilled that in us.”
