Most Romantic Restaurants

Your weekly five picks and this week it's all about romance.

Every week we'll be bringing you five "Patch Picks" to help you make plans. Last week it was all about and this week the theme is romantic restaurants. Here is a list of the ones we think are tops.

  • The Suburban
Owned by the entrepreneur couple, Suzette and Arturo Franco-Camacho, this gastropub is oozing with romance. Candle lit and very quaint, you'll want to call ahead for reservations, especially if you are hoping to snag a table for two on Valentine's Day. If the Suburban isn't your choice, it's good to know that they also have a modestly priced taco cart open Monday-Saturday on the corner of Svea and Main Street (learn more about the cart and the Franco-Camachos’ restaurants ).
  • or
If you're the adventurous type you'll probably like the history of Nellie Green's which is steeped in tales of local rum running. Though not in the speakeasy business now, Nellie Green's does have plenty of legal libations and will offer Chef Jason's special tasting menu for Valentine's Day for $32 per person or $49 per person with wine pairing. If you're into the idea of down low drinking, you can also try Indian Neck Pizza just down the road from Nellie Green's where you and a lover can spilt a pizza and bring your own beverages. Cheers!

  • Italian fare is always a sure bet to put lovers in the mood for... more Italian food! La Luna Ristorante offers a couple's Valentine's special for $74.95 (two) and promises a picture-perfect evening. It's the kind of place, though we can't say for sure, that would offer roses for the ladies on the house – dates take note.

  • Located on the Branford Green, this restaurant could not offer a more romantic evening. A quaint, yet classy atmosphere highlights delicious cuisine. Don't be surprised if you decide to make reservations for another dinner! You can also have Past Cosi at home; check out their online store.

  • For couples who love to stoke the flame, Nine East offers tableside fire with hibachi chefs manning the griddle. Relatively new to town (new owners) Nine East's decor offers a bit of Manhattan dining right here in Branford. The food is uniquely presented with thoughtful garnish and the atmosphere is very chic. Be sure to drop a penny or two into their coy fish pond and say a wish with your hunny.

Bonus Pick!

  • A personal favorite of your Branford Patch Editor, this Japanese restaurant on Route 80 offers a quaint setting in an unsuspecting area of North Branford. Dine on boats of sushi or unique rolls or go the route she usually does and order the Korean hot stone bibimbap. The staff is delightful and the green tea is plentiful!

Next week we are looking for five local nonprofits that make a difference. Share your picks in the comment box or email nicole.ball@patch.com.
