Could another frozen treat shop be coming to the Branford Green area? At the Sept. 9 Planning and Zoning meeting, the motion to change the use of the property at 1080 Main Street from retail to food service was approved.

According to the minutes, Heela Kim presented floor plans depicting the layout for a self-serve yogurt shop in space previously utilized for retail sales, most recently it was Crowning Glory. The shop would join Ashley's and Ben & Jerry's, which are also along the Green on Main Street.

Patch contacted the property owner of 1080 Main St., Elaine Parisi, who also owns Possessions, a clothing botique nextdoor, to find out when the froyo shop would be opening but the call was not returned.

Kim opened a self-serve yogurt shop, Flavors, at 290 York Street in New Haven last October, according to the Yale Daily News. This wouldn't be the first new yogurt shop opening in town as NuVita opened its doors in July 2012.

How would you like a self-serve yogurt shop in downtown Branford?

Just asking October 05, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Oh yea! How exciting another ice cream/yogurt shop in Branford. Just what we need. Now I can choose from Ashleys, Ben & Jerry's and Rita's or the new one! How lucky can anyone be. At least it's not another Dunkin Donuts or drug store!

I think a burger or hot dog joint would have been a better idea...if you have too many of similar things near eachother they'll just be stealing business from eachother

Or nail shop or spa or some BS women's clothing and accessory shop.

Come on everybody, what Branford really needs is another bar.

WHAAAAAAT???????? Are they nuts?
Kathy October 05, 2012 at 02:16 PM
OOO! P & Z really needs to think about the overall picture of Main Street and allow a business that a) is needed and b) doesn't compete with already existing ones. How about a cheese/gourmet food shop? Or Boutique wine store? Maybe a real book store or clothing shop for women over size 6? (i.e. Plus size, but fashion forward?) Was a shame that Cohen's left... would La Cuisine open an in-town location? What if we used it as a snall performance space? Readings, music, workshops (Greg Nobile ?) How about something to draw guys downtown...?
Tracy Hanson October 05, 2012 at 03:26 PM
Why not another nail salon? We only have 10.
Greg Nobile October 05, 2012 at 03:38 PM
I so wish it could be a performance space, too Kathy! Let me know if you find one- I am always looking for a small space for just what you are talking about.
Jackie October 05, 2012 at 04:58 PM
Very disappointing

I agree with Greg...a small performance space would be wonderful! Plus my heart will always be with Ashley's....
