Branford Bridge Project Hurting Business

Business has dropped off since the project began in April.

Grace Romano isn’t sure how much longer she can keep her Grace’s Grill on School Ground Road open.

Since April a popular thoroughfare through the diner’s location has been closed because of a $3.2 million bridge replacement project, reports the New Haven Register.

Instead of 7,000 cars running through the area daily traffic has essentially been stopped and its expected to last until November, reporter Evan Lips reports.

The diner is near Leetes Island Road near Interstate 95.

Grace doesn’t blame anyone but is hopeful she can keep her business afloat until November.

Many businesses have been affected by the bridge closing. We were told by the town that the Fairways Driving Range would not be affected because we were considered a 'destination'. Well our destination is now more difficult to get to. On more than one occasion the road crews denied access to School Ground Rd for unspecified periods of time. Our loyal customers found alternative routes but not all are willing or able to find us. Our business has suffered. The New Haven Register should have interviewed other businesses for a more in depth article. We are concerned for Grace's Grill, Mamsco, Britian Automotive, DuVig Beer Co., Uhaul and more and especially Fairways Golf Driving Range. Please don't forget about us because if you look the other way for too long we may be gone.
