Are you Smarter than a 3rd Grader? Live Game Show

You may be familiar with the game show 'Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?' The Branford Early Childhood Collaborative, whose mission is "To ensure that all Branford children, from birth through age 8 years of age, are happy, healthy, safe and successful, with a love of learning in school and in life" has created a version of this live family game show that will take place right in our backyard. Are you Smarter than a 3rd Grader takes place at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club on September 27th from 6pm-9pm and features a pasta bar and fun kid-friendly drinks such as the Slippery Sliney, Tingling Tisko, Mad Murphy and Silly St. Mary's.  The event sponsors are Fuzion Medical Aesthetic Boutique, Mosaic Printing and RJ Julia.

Why 3rd grade?

We've chosen kids who have completed a full year of 3rd grade for good reasons! First, it aligns with the BECC's mission servicing children to age 8. Another reason is that research shows that children who are reading on grade level by 3rd grade is the most important predictor of better educational outcomes in high school and beyond. By the end of 3rd grade and beginning 4th, kids experience an important transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. A very exciting time!

When, Where and How?

BECC's game show and fundraiser will also include a silent auction. Audience tickets are very reasonable at $20/adults and $10/kids so families can come and cheer for their favorite contestants.  The game will feature 8 kids working together on a panel to try to outsmart the adults. We have six teams of 3 adults each and rounds will be broken up with comical live commercials of local businesses featuring local student actors. Questions will be about history, pop culture, geography, math, music, science and more.

Who?

The host of the evening is Charlie Grady is a long time resident of Branford and a retired law enforcement officer. He is also a professional actor, public speaker and event host for over twenty years. He has appeared Off Broadway and in popular television shows such as Law & Order, All My Children and Guiding Light as well as many TV commercials. His film credits include "Breaking Point" starring Armand Assante and rapper Busta Rhymes, "Mail Order Bride" starring Danny Aiello, ""Fake" starring Robert Loggia and Fisher Stevens and "An Affirmative Act" starring Charles Durning to name a few. His latest film roles are in "Snap Shot", "The Word" and "Diamond Ruff". The film Diamond Ruff was shot entirely here in CT and will premiere on Nov. 1st at the Bushnell theater following a Red Carpet event. "The Word" (also shot in CT) and "Snap Shot" are set for early spring 2014 release.
