Wedding Tip of the Week: Favorite Favors

The wedding favor conundrum. What to give your guests?

Ah wedding favors... a necessary evil of the wedding planning process. Don't get me wrong, I love a good favor, but it can be so hard to choose the right little gift ( especially without breaking the bank) to send your guests off with at the end of the night. Here are a few favor inspiration ideas to consider:

Cultural (Traditional) Favors Pay homage to your upbringing by giving your guests something that they would receive if they had attended a wedding in the country your families hail from. Jordan Almonds, a favorite at Greek and Italian weddings are popular favor ideas. A traditional Jewish favor is a bencher, or a mini blessing book.

Profession-Related Favors Personalized pencils with your names and wedding date are the perfect favor from a teacher. A packet of spices is the perfect thank-you favor from a chef. I've even seen personalized scrubs given by a nurse/doctor couple.

Hobby/Interest-Related Favors Are you two big music fans? Perhaps a cute little guitar pick "she picked him" with your date. Hiking nuts? Little pouches of trail mix are cute as can be. Gardener? Consider seed packets.

Play off the Season Mini bouquets of local flowers make a lovely spring wedding favor. Popsicles handed out as guests depart is a refreshing treat in the summer. Homemade flavorful jams are a perfect favor in the fall.

Donations Pick a charity near and dear to your heart and make a donation in lieu of favors. This is quickly becoming one of the most popular favor ideas for brides and grooms across the country, often conveyed to guests by placing little cards on the center of each table.

A few general rules of thumb to consider:

  • You can do one favor per couple. Unless you are planning to place individual favors at the place-settings I completely suggest this.
  • You can't go wrong with food. More often than not your guests may be a bit hungry again at the end of the night so a cookie or candy is always a welcome parting treat.
  • Your place-card can double as a favor. Choosing to give a cute frame as a gift? Use it to help guide your guests to their seat the day of the wedding.
