Let’s Go Antique Shopping!

Many antiques are beautiful and can give us insight into what daily life was like in the past.

It is fun to poke around antique stores looking at old books, lamps, unique glassware, a beautiful piece of furniture or jewelry, or something unusual from times gone by that catches your eye. "What was this used for?" or "Who did this belong to?" you may wonder. We probably will never know the answers to these questions, but that is okay.

Here are a few suggestions for antiquing in Branford. It’s a good idea to check store hours and days open before heading out so you won’t be disappointed when you get there.

This shop is full of wonderful finds. Plan to spend time poking around as hidden gems may be behind or under something else.

I found some lovely glass pieces here in the past and once spotted a fantastic desk with a built-in bookshelf. Unfortunately, I waited and when I went back to take a second look, it was gone. One rule of antiquing: if you find something you truly love and the price is right for your budget, buy it.

824 East Main Street

Fine furniture, a selection of sculptures, statues and collectibles are available at this larger antique store. I’ll be checking out what is new here later this week!

172 Thimble Island Road

Jewelry, books, furniture, and glassware aplenty fill this shop. This is a great place to browse and the view of the Sound outside the window is lovely. I cherish the antique butter knives I bought here some time ago. We use them often!

Debbie’s Daily Dose of Food for Thought

When it comes to antiques, it is good to keep this quote by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. in mind: “Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends.” How true!
