Free Western Film Series: THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE

A free Western Film Series at James Blackstone Memorial Library.  758 Main Street in Branford.  Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM.

July 5 - MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946)  Directed by John Ford.  This masterpiece stars Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp.

July 12 – BROKEN ARROW (1950)  Directed by Delmer Daves.  A  landmark western starring James Stewart.

July 19 - SHANE (1953) Directed by George Stevens.  An absolute classic starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Van Heflin.

July 26 - WILL PENNY  (1968) Directed by Tom Gries.  Starring Charlton Heston in possibly his finest performance as an aging cowboy.

Aug 2 - THE SHOOTIST (1976) Directed by Don Siegel.  John Wayne’s poignant final performance as a dying gunfighter.

Aug 9 - THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE (1970) Directed by Sam Peckinpah.  A truly poetic and lyrical  film featuring brilliant performances by Connecticut’s own Jason Robards, Stella Stevens and David Warner.

A fascinating companion piece to Peckinpah's earlier THE WILD BUNCH and possibly his true, albeit unsung, masterpiece.
