Branford Resident Shares Life Story with New Album

Laurence Capezzone shares his life story on his new album "Walking with the Lord."

Laurence Capezzone remembers the moment he fell in love with music – it was Christmas and 1966 and he received a "Meet the Beatles" album. So began his passion for collecting albums.

"I was always open to many different genres of music and seeing as I grew up in the '70s, I would have been a fool if I wasn’t because it was all great," he said. "It didn’t matter if it was the blues, country, southern rock, rock & roll."

But Capezzone doesn't only enjoy listening to music, he also enjoys creating it and earlier this month, the Branford resident released his new CD, "Walking With the Lord," which he calls his life story with "a collection of songs describing where my life has taken me."

Check out the Q&A with Capezzone about his career and his latest work:

Branford Patch: What inspires you to make the music you do? What do you love about making music?
Capezzone: The songs on "Walking With the Lord" are songs of faith and my life experiences. I talk with the Lord often because he is in control always. I know he gave me each of these songs. Life inspires me. I walk out the door and there is something to write about. There’s a song everywhere, which is a joy to me. I get a melody in my head and there ya go. Music is in my soul all the time, not just sometimes. After a recent live concert that we did in Trumbull a friend of mine described the music as “Americana all the way.” I really love that description and that is what I’m using.

Branford Patch: How did this album come about?
Capezzone: The CD came to life simply by trying to raise some money for the United Methodist Church of Branford’s Youth Group to fund a future mission trip. I had some songs milling around so my friends and I decided on put on a benefit concert. We had such a great time and received a positive response to the music that my wife encouraged me to record them and that’s exactly what we did.

Branford Patch: Who did you work with on this album?
Capezzone: The musicians that have joined me on this CD are two brothers and one sister from my church, United Methodist Church of Branford. One is a dear friend from a past band and one I just met a few months ago and one special surprise gift. The musicians are myself, Laurence Capezzone on guitar and lead vocals; Rick Gregoire on guitars and harmony vocals; Bob Massage, a Pennsylvania boy, now living in Guilford handled the low notes. Conny Winterhoff Umile originally from Hagen Germany, now from Guilford, adds her soulful violin, cello and harmony vocals. Tony Cafiero’s gifted hands added all the keyboards that make Walking with the Lord so special. Phil Palmisano, a new and important addition to this crew laid down the drum tracks. Then there is Phil Rosenthal – whose studio American Melody located in Guilford is where the album was recorded – who came out from behind the mixing board and put the icing on the cake with his banjo and mandolin. I am honored that he would accompany us on this album. I am eternally grateful to all the talented musicians willing to put hard work into this recording.

Branford Patch: Where is "Walking with the Lord" available?
Capezzone: It is available on cdbaby.com, by contacting him at laurencecapezzone@ymail.com or you can find us hanging out at Branford United Methodist Church. My hope is that this album brings a bit of enjoyment and peace to people’s lives.
