Sunday: Branford to Honor Those Who Served

Branford's Veterans Day Parade will feature a variety of local groups who will gather together to march in honor of active, retired and fallen service members.

Branford will pause, reflect and take time to honor the service of the town's entire military veterans community this Sunday, Nov. 10.

This year’s Veterans Day ceremonies will take place at the cenotaph behind Branford Town Hall beginning at 1 p.m.

After brief ceremonies, the parade will step-off on to South Main Street to Main Street to North Harbor Street via Main Street, and return to reviewing stand in front of town hall.

  • 2nd Company Governors Foot Guard
  • 1st BN 102 Infantry National Guard
  • American Legion
  • Veterans of Foreign War Units
  • Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps
  • St. Mary Fife & Drum Corps
  • Totoket Fife & Drum Corps
  • Branford Town Band
  • Branford High School Band
  • Branford Police Color Guard
  • Branford Fire Department
  • Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies Scouts
  • Take-A-Vet Fishing of the 1st Congregational Church
  • Patriotic Float of the 1st Baptist Church
  • Shoreline Antique Auto Connection

All Vets, Public Invited

All U.S. military veterans, as well as active service members, are invited to march in the First Section with the American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars groups. 

And the public, of course, is encouraged to review and attend the parade as well. 

Flag Volunteers 

On Nov. 2, some 2,000 U.S. flags were placed throughout all of Branford's major cemeteries on the final resting places of veterans. 

The flags will be removed on Nov. 16 at 8 a.m. And volunteers are needed for the removal project, which will take about 45 minutes.

Those who want to take part are asked to bring screw drive to help remove the flags from the flag holes. Instructions will be offered to volunteers.

Town Offices Closed

All Branford town offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans’ Day.
