Local Vets: Tim Kingston, a Family Man

In celebration of our nation's birthday, meet the people who serve in its defense and make it such a great place to live. This week: Tim Kingston.

In attendance at the recent event at was veteran Tim Kingston, who served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Staff Sargeant, Senior NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer). Originally from Groton, he was no stranger to the armed forces growing up – his father was a submarine veteran.

Tim served two deployments in Iraq, stationed with the 101st Airborne Division at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Speicher, and with the 3rd Infantry Division at FOB Hammer. His first tour spanned from 2005 to 2006, and his second took place the following year, 2007 through 2008.

Tim, 30, was medically retired last October after nearly seven years active duty. He explains that he was injured in Iraq during his first tour of duty when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb during an ambush.

He currently lives in Milford with his wife and three children. His son, Noah, 5, attended the Take a Vet Fishing event with him and wore an ear-to-ear grin. Noah manned the fishing pole just long enough to help his father bait and cast before becoming preoccupied with climbing the rocks and exploring the rest of Killam’s Point. Tim has two other children, a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy.

After sustaining injuries during his first tour, Tim returned to the United States and was able to be present for Noah’s birth. Despite his injuries, Tim volunteered to return for a second tour. He was able to witness the birth of his daughter remotely. He explains that he was flown to Baghdad in December of 2007, and saw his wife deliver in the living room via live video.

Now a proud father and family man, Tim is happy to have served in his nation’s defense, and appreciates the support of U.S. veterans through programs such as Take a Vet Fishing.
